Cliveden House
Nestled in the Berkshire countryside, just 40 minutes from London, Cliveden House has long been a venue for merriment, intrigue and scandal! Originally built in 1666 as a hunting lodge for the Duke of Buckingham, the house was twice destroyed by fire, only to be renovated to its former glory and more. During World War I it was used as an emergency hospital which was visited by Winston Churchill, then First Lord of the Admiralty, and later was the epicentre of the Profumo affair as the politician and Christine Keeler, who would become his mistress, met by the Cliveden pool.
With so much history and character, Cliveden House is a truly unique events venue, perfect for classic conferences or Summer parties.
Though its history spans 350 years, it wasn’t until 1985 that Cliveden House became a privately owned 5* hotel. The Grade I listed building is set in 376 acres of National Trust parkland, while the interior remains true to its roots; luxurious, traditional and classy. Enhancing its already extensive offering, the hotel added a new spa in 2017 which we’re sure Meghan Duchess of Sussex used when she stayed at Cliveden the night before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.
The hotel boasts 6 beautiful event spaces, ranging in capacity but all with the same signature Cliveden style. From the French Dining Room with its ornate decoration and views over the estate, to the Cellar Dining Room, a subterranean wine vault with exposed brick arches, to Spring Cottage, Cliveden’s private lodge nestled in the grounds on the banks of the Thames, there’s something for a wide range of events.
