The historic City of London, with its square mile once surrounded by Roman walls, used to be all that existed of the capital. However, after centuries of expansion and urbanisation, ‘the City’ is now just a tiny part of what has become the massive metropolis of Greater London.

The combination of The Great Fire of London in 1666 and the World War 2 Blitz damaged much of the area, but parts of the Roman walls, the medieval street pattern and the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral still remain.
